Desert Island Discs is a radio programme created by Roy Plomley and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Each week a guest, called a "castaway", is asked to choose eight records, a book and a luxury item that they would like to take if they were cast away on a desert island, whilst also discussing their life. An invitation to appear on the programme is considered a great honour.

    1. Two of the three people below have appeared on Desert Island Discs four times. Which of them has appeared only three times?

    2. What problem occurred when the novelist Alistair MacLean was chosen as a guest?

    3. Guests can choose one luxury, which must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside. Roy Plomley enforced these rules strictly. He did, however, grant a special dispensation to Princess Michael of Kent, who chose... WHAT?
