The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, otherwise known as D-Day. They were originally planned to take place on Monday 5th June 1944, but bad weather postponed them until the following day, 6th June.
1. What was the codename for the naval phase of the Normandy landings on 6th June 1944?
2. The Allied invasion plans had called for the capture of Carentan, Saint-Lô, Caen, and Bayeux, with all the beaches (other than Utah) linked with a front line 10 to 16 kilometres (6 to 10 mi) from the beaches, on the first day. How many of these objectives were achieved?
3. How many Victoria Crosses were awarded to British troops on D-Day?
